Murfreesboro Symphony’s concert to highlight a century of jazz

The Murfreesboro Symphony will perform the jazz concert “Basie, Bebop, Ballads & Blues” at the First United Methodist Church on 235 W. Thompson Ln. in Murfreesboro on Feb. 22. “Tennesseans should be very proud of the many contributions that our state has made to jazz history for the past century,” said Dr. Michael Parkinson, who will be a guest director for the concert. The concert will tie-in with Black History Month and will highlight contributions by performers, composers and arrangers from Tennessee, including Jack Cooper & W.C. Handy, Lil Hardin, Paul Lohorn, Jimmy Lunceford, Chris McDonald, Ryan Middagh and Jamey Simpson.
